The spicy topic of sex comes up often enough on parenting boards I frequent, but the heat seems to instantly cool when the subject of sex during pregnancy comes up. Having sex while you are pregnant should be fantabulous! It’s the one time that both partners can live it up. There is no fear of “getting pregnant” and the drudgery of “trying to make a baby” has worn off since you’ve already made one!

But many women I know and many I don’t (via the parenting forum) express the same thing about sex during pregnancy: they’re not doing it. Many women can’t relax because they are worried about something happening to the baby. (To be fair, partners worry, too.) Women also may not feel attractive with fuller bellies, breasts, and hips even if their partners find them especially beautiful this way.

There are women that only had sex a handful of times during pregnancy. Women who can’t get enough, especially when those second trimester hormones kick in. Women who did not have sex at all for the entire pregnancy.
